IPL Photofacial with the Cynosure® Palomar Icon™ Laser MaxG IPL Handpiece
North Shore Aesthetics is proud to provide IPL Photofacial services with the MaxG handpiece, a part of the Palomar Icon™ Aesthetic System by Cynosure®. IPL, short for Intense Pulsed Light, or “photofacial” therapy, is a noninvasive method for repairing and rejuvenating skin texture.
IPL addresses the effects of overexposure to the sun (“photoaging”). Photoaging most often affects the face, hands, neck and chest. The MaxG safely lightens and removes these unwanted blemishes.

Ideal candidates for IPL include anyone seeking to address the following visible and non-visible sun damage on the surface of the skin.

- Stretch Marks
The Palomar Icon™ Skintel Melanin Reader
The Palomar Icon™ Laser by Cynosure® is equipped with a Skintel Melanin Reader that measures the levels of melanin in your skin, creating accurate skin tone readings so we can create “custom to you” IPL treatments with the MaxG handpiece.
IPL treatment is not recommended for patients with darker skin tones. If you are unsure if IPL is for you, contact North Shore Aesthetics for a consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How Does the Cynosure Icon™ MaxG IPL Work?
Harnessing the power of optimized light technology, the Icon™ IPL MaxG focuses a unique combination of light wavelengths through specially designed filters. These precision treatments address and correct specific skin conditions quickly, removing esthetic skin blemishes.
-
What happens during the IPL Treatment with the Icon™ MaxG?
IPL treatment with the MaxG should only last between 5-15 minutes depending on the area(s) needing treatment.
Before the MaxG handpiece is used, a coupling lotion is spread over the area of skin receiving treatment. The handpiece is then applied directly to the area being treated, eliminating the chances of damaging the surrounding skin.
After treatment, the coupling lotion is removed and a cream may be spread over the treated area and you can get on with your day without having to deal with bandages or medicinal ointments.
During the treatment, you may experience several sensations, but only for just a few seconds including:
- A cooling sensation at the start of the treatment
- A “rubber band snap” feeling as the treatment takes effect
Once the affected areas have absorbed the focused energies of the treatment, natural healing processes take over, resulting in healthy, new layers of skin, free of blemish.
-
How many IPL treatments with the MaxG will I need?
You may require more than one treatment to achieve the best results. During your consultation, we will review your specific skin care needs and create a custom plan for you.
-
How long until I see results from the IPL treatments?
For a few weeks after your IPL treatment(s), the treated area will darken and flake off, but you will notice progressive clearance of skin issues being addressed.
