Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery In Chicago and Northbrook, IL

Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian Butt Lift, sometimes called buttock augmentation, is a cosmetic procedure where one’s own body fat is taken from another area, such as the stomach, love handles, thighs, arms, etc. and then reinserted into the buttocks, making it bigger, curvier, and more attractive.

Am I a Candidate for Brazilian Butt Lift?

If you are at least 18 years old, are no more than 30 pounds overweight, are in good health, and have realistic expectations about the procedure, the recovery and the long term results then you are a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift.

The Procedure

This outpatient surgery is performed in our state-of-the-art, state licensed surgical suite under IV sedation; similar to what you may have experienced having your wisdom teeth removed or a colonoscopy performed. First, the surgeon harvests fat from other areas of the body, which typically include the lower back, love handles, abdomen, and thighs. Once the fat has been collected, it is ready to be processed and purified before it is reinserted into the buttocks. This is where the doctor’s skill and artistry come into play. The fat will be inserted into many different areas of the buttocks at different depths and different locations. The surgeon will use many small, precise injections into different areas. The doctor takes each patient’s desired look into consideration so that she can achieve the look she wants. Some women may need more fat placed on the lower portion of the butt, to create the “bubble butt” look, for example. As the doctor injects the fat, he will use massage techniques and feel around to make sure the fat is evenly distributed and smooth around the entire buttocks. The full buttock augmentation surgery typically takes 3 to 4 hours.

The Recovery

After a Brazilian Butt Lift, patients must avoid any injury to the fragile fat cells that have been transferred to the butt. These cells have been traumatized during the liposuction stage of the Brazilian Butt Lift. They are very fragile and any additional injury can lead to fat cell death, meaning those fat cells will be reabsorbed by the body. To avoid excessive fat loss, patients must avoid putting pressure on the transferred fat cells for two weeks. This means no sitting for most patients, no lying on your back. Patients can stand up and walk, or sleep on their stomach. After two weeks, patients can sit on their butt, but preferably on a soft pillow. During the first two weeks after fat transfer, if you do need to sit down, try to keep it to a minimum and stand up or relieve pressure as often as possible.

Brazilian Butt Lift Terms to Know

Liposuction – (also known as lipoplasty) is cosmetic surgery performed to remove unwanted deposits of fat from under the skin. The doctor sculpts and contours the patient’s body by removing excess fat deposits that have been resistant to reduction by diet or exercise. The fat is permanently removed from under the skin with a suction device.

Fat Grafting – (also known as fat injection) is a plastic surgery method whereby excess fat is taken from one area of the body and then transferred to another in order to add plumpness. This is normally a relatively quick procedure of about two to four hours and done on an outpatient status.

IV Sedation – (also known as twilight anesthesia) uses medications administered through an intravenous line (I.V.) so that the patient falls asleep and is completely unaware of the procedure being performed. Supplemental oxygen is delivered through a nasal breathing apparatus and the patient’s vital signs are closely monitored.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What will the buttock augmentation scars look like?

The scarring from the liposuction and the fat transfer is actually very minimal. There are no long suture lines, just small incision sites where the cannula and the fat were inserted.

  • Is Smartlipo good for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The best method of liposuction for fat transfer is the AquaShape Body Jet because as it dissects the fat to be suctioned, it also cleanses it; thus the purifying process is more efficient. With Smartlipo, the fat is melted prior to being suctioned out; thus, this is not the best choice for transfer.

  • How long will the results last?

The results are virtually permanent. Some of the transferred fat will be reabsorbed by the body, but other than that, what is put there stays there.
