The Scarless Tummy Tuck

Posted in Non-Surgical Procedures

For years, tummy tuck surgery was the only cosmetic way to achieve a toned and sculpted abdomen. Tummy tuck surgery is so beneficial because it not only removes unwanted, excess abdominal fat but also treats skin laxity, something that most non-surgical or minimally-invasive procedures cannot do. Even liposuction, with its powerful ability to remove unwanted fat cells, cannot tighten skin adequately and, therefore, is not always a viable alternative to tummy tuck surgery. Fortunately, those days seem to be coming to a close.

For men and women who desire abdominal results that can be on-par with tummy tuck surgery but don’t have the time needed for recovery or are not ready for invasive surgery, Renuvion™ is available as a scar-less alternative to a tummy tuck.

What Can Renuvion™ Treat?

Abdominal laxity can occur in men and women for a variety of reasons. The abdomen is one of the most challenging areas to keep toned and trim, even with a healthy diet and routine exercise. Even for patients who have been able to lose unwanted abdominal fat successfully, excess skin may be present, especially after significant weight loss or pregnancy. Renuvion™ treats unwanted skin laxity in the abdomen and is an excellent combination procedure with liposuction if you are concerned about both excess fat and skin.

What is Renuvion™?

Renuvion™ is a non-invasive skin treatment that tightens skin with a combination of helium plasma and radiofrequency energy. This combination gets evenly administered to the abdominal region through tiny incisions (the same incisions used during liposuction) to gently heat the tissue and stimulate the production of collagen. By doing this, the skin is triggered and begins to tighten and shrink.

How Do the Recovery Periods Differ?

Tummy tuck surgery is an invasive surgical procedure that results in a large scar. The traditional tummy tuck incision runs from hip bone to hip bone, and it is through this incision that excess fat and skin are removed before the remaining skin is re-draped over your new abdominal contour. Traditionally, tummy tuck surgery takes between six weeks and a few months to completely get back to an exercise routine. Your movement will be limited during the first week or two, and you will experience some pain and discomfort during your recovery. Unlike the tummy tuck, Renuvion™ does not require that much downtime. Renuvion™ usually takes under a week or two for the bruising and swelling to dissipate. Results will be noticeable in a few weeks but will take up to six to eight months for the tissues to fully mature and your results to show. And unlike the hip to hip scar that a tummy tuck will bring, Renuvion™ offers little to no scarring as no extensive incisions are made.

To this day, the tummy tuck will provide the most significant amount of abdominal contouring; however, for patients who may have mild abdominal skin laxity that is unresponsive to diet and exercise, Renuvion™ is a viable alternative. A large amount of skin laxity may not respond adequately to a Renuvion™ treatment. Dr. Schlechter can determine if you are a good candidate for this less invasive treatment.
