Labiaplasty for Discomfort

Posted in Body Plastic Surgery

Woman wearing black underwearPhysical comfort is something we crave as human beings. There’s nothing like curling up with a blanket on a snowy winter’s day, slipping between soft bed sheets, or finding the perfect outfit that is both flattering and comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, some physical discomforts are caused by anatomic realities. Just as some women experience discomfort because of their overly large breasts, some women experience discomfort due to the size or shape of their labia. Labiaplasty can improve the size and shape of the labia to reduce discomfort and limit irritation.

How the Labia Can Cause Discomfort and Irritation

The labia are the small inner lips of the female genitalia that are on either side of the vagina. Their appearance and size can vary significantly from woman to woman. Women may be born with genetically large labia or labia that are asymmetrical or irregular. Some women develop enlarged labia over time or after bearing children.

When the labia are irregularly shaped, asymmetrical, or enlarged, they can cause discomfort, chronic irritation, and chafing. This unpleasantness may be exacerbated when sitting, biking, running, wearing tight clothing such as swimsuits, and participating in sexual activities. For some women, the discomfort is so significant that they feel compelled to avoid these things. If you feel discomfort because of your labia that causes you to avoid wearing certain types of clothing, participating in activities you love, being intimate with your partner, or even doing something as commonplace as sitting, labiaplasty can help you.

Getting Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty can adjust the size, shape, and appearance of your labia to improve your physical comfort. For this one-hour long procedure, you will come into our in-office surgical suite and will be given IV sedation for a pain-free experience. Dr. Schlechter will carefully measure and mark your labia to determine their ideal symmetry and size, after which he will delicately trim off the excess tissue. He will then reshape the remaining labial tissue into a more beautiful and symmetrical appearance. Reducing the size of the labia and making them more symmetrical improves their appearance and reduces discomfort, irritation, and pain. Women often report having much relief after labiaplasty, which helps them feel free and comfortable to do and wear what they please.
