How Will a Breast Lift Affect the Appearance of Your Breasts?

Posted in Breast Surgery

Breast sagging is a common and expected part of aging; however, additional factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight loss can speed up and increase the substantialness of that sagging. Any level of breast sagging can have adverse effects on your self-esteem and self-image. It can affect the clothing styles you choose as well as impact your confidence in intimate settings. A breast lift is performed to restore sagging breasts to their previous elevation on the chest to restore confidence and a balanced aesthetic.

The extent of breast sagging can range from mild to severe. With mild sagging, you may experience a slight drop in the breasts (that is common with age or pregnancy) but retain some skin elasticity. With severe sagging, your breasts may become elongated and loose with nipples that point downward. Breast lift surgery can target any level of breast ptosis to restore youthfulness and perkiness to the breasts. During this procedure, Dr. Schlechter removes any excess breast tissue and skin, repositions the nipples higher on the breasts, and closes the incisions. The results are breasts that are firmer and more elevated on the chest.

Combination Procedures for Larger Transformation

While breast lift surgery can be a stand-alone procedure, it is often combined with either breast augmentation or a breast reduction. A breast lift does wonders in restoring a youthful appearance to the breasts, but it has very little to no effect on the volume of the breasts.

A breast lift removes excess skin and raises the position of the breasts on the chest. However, it adds no volume to the breasts, and the breasts may appear smaller than they were before the lift because removing the excess skin causes the breasts to be more compact. If you desire increased volume and size to the breasts, you may need to combine a breast augmentation with your lift to achieve your desired appearance. A breast augmentation/breast lift combination is ideal for women who’ve always wanted larger breasts and women whose breasts have deflated with pregnancy or weight loss. Breast implants are added at the time of your breast lift surgery to create enhancement in both size and youthfulness.

On the other hand, some women desire a breast lift due to the excess weight of overly-large or cumbersome breasts. Having ill-proportioned, large breasts puts extra strain on the thin breast skin and is one of the causes of premature sagging of the breasts. A breast reduction/breast lift combination is ideal for women suffering from the emotional and physical side effects of overly-large and sagging breasts. During this procedure, Dr. Schlechter removes excess breast tissue and skin. These two procedures are good combination procedures because they are performed through the same incisions.
